Tribute

Terrence “Terry” Ray Bohr, beloved husband, dad, and Papa, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Terry was born in Aurora, IL on September 18th, 1957, to William and Lorraine (White) Bohr. Terry had a deep faith and trust in God. This was evident in his character traits: kindness, integrity, humility and perseverance. Terry lived every day to the fullest. He was a dedicated family man and a loyal friend. These virtues left an everlasting mark on his family and others.

Terry married his best friend and the love of his life, Jodi Wegman, on October 11, 1980. Together they raised three beautiful children and enjoyed every moment. This April would mark 50 years together. Their very first date was on Jodi’s 15th birthday in 1974 where they attended a sock hop and had dinner at Pizza Hut. Married for 43 years, Terry and Jodi enjoyed traveling together; from Galena, to Germany, Portugal, Colorado, California, Arizona, Hawaii, and Mexico.  Some of their favorite beach destinations were Amelia Island, Siesta Key, and Sanibel Island. They both also had a love for Disney World and enjoyed taking their children and grandchildren there on many large, memorable family vacations.

Family was always first for Terry. He cherished time with his children, often waking them up by singing his famous good morning song. He provided his kids with an amazing childhood, taking them on many vacations and ski trips. Terry coached his kids in sports and was very active in various associations and booster clubs for both Annunciation and Aurora Central Catholic High School. As his kids grew and started their own families, Terry loved to, as he would say, “throw a project.”  He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed helping his kids improve and make their homes more beautiful. Terry loved to spend time with his grandchildren, celebrating their birthdays, having them for sleepovers and playing games with them. As they became involved in sports and activities, Terry would not miss a chance to be there, always supporting his grandkids.

One of the greatest decisions Terry ever made was dating and marrying the boss’s daughter. After 1 year of college studying accounting, Terry decided being active and outside was for him. In 1976, he joined the Carpenters Union and began his career as an apprentice working at R.C. Wegman Construction, founded by Jodi’s father, Robert “Chic” Wegman. Terry had a strong work ethic and became a skilled craftsman. Progressing from carpenter, to Superintendent, Project Manager, President, and Senior Consultant, Terry was involved at R.C. Wegman Construction for 47 years until his passing. He played a vital role in mentoring a 3rd generation to carry on the family business. Terry was always caring, fair and calm, yet stern and professional. He was a master at scheduling and pushing projects to completion. A list of notable projects that Terry was most proud of include Hollywood Casino, Aurora Central Catholic High School, Vaughan Athletic Center, Aurora Public Library, RiverEdge Park, numerous FVPD parks, and 14 Fire Stations total. He always said that firemen were the most fun and easiest to work with. Throughout Terry’s career, he valued giving back to his community. He served in various roles on the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Aurora Economic Development Board, Invest Aurora, Provena Mercy Foundation Board, Aurora Fire Code Board of Appeals, and Aurora Building Code Review Board.

Outside of family and work, live music and golfing were Terry’s loves. The Venue and RiverEdge Park were his favorite spots to see live music. He especially loved big band acts with horns, so much so that he insisted on having a live band at their wedding reception. Terry was an avid golfer and his golf game was much like his personality: consistent, calm, straightforward, and fierce. Although he himself had 2 holes-in-one, one of his most cherished memories was witnessing his 14-year-old grandson, Ben, hit a hole-in-one in the summer of 2023. Terry always looked forward to his annual Green Lake golf weekend, a 36 year tradition, and also took a very memorable golf trip to Ireland in 2012. His greatest golf accomplishment was winning the Super Senior Golf Championship at Eagle Brook Country Club where he enjoyed being a member the last several years, making many friends. One last great golf-related story took place on the morning of Lauren and Tyler’s wedding day in Galena. The guys played The General that morning, the hardest course in the Galena Territory. When asked how the General played, he joked, “General? More like a Private after I got done with it!” after shooting a 76.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jodeen Bohr; son Douglas (Leah) Bohr, daughters Lindsey (Mark) Corbin and Lauren (Tyler) Weber; grandchildren Benjamin, Evan and Ellie Bohr, Chloe, Ava and Hayden Corbin, Mackenzie and Madison Weber; siblings Pam (Jeff) Prestinario, Patti (Rick) Dickens, Tim (Laura) Bohr, Todd (Mary) Bohr, Kelly (Mark) Carlson, and Kris (Mark) Luedtke; sisters-in-law Laura Maxey, Janet (Richie) Luthmann, Karen (Kevin) Kuk, Juli (David) Michaels, Toni Wegman; brothers-in-law Carl (Mary) Wegman, Andrew (Gannon) Wegman, Todd (Paula) Wegman. Terry was blessed to have 40 nieces and nephews, 45 great nieces and nephews, and even a great-great nephew. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lorraine Bohr, stepmother Dee Bohr, in-laws Emma and Robert Wegman, brothers-in-law Paul and Chris Wegman, and many other cherished family members.

In a final act of generosity, Terry donated his body to science. Having suffered with a rare autoimmune blood disorder for 24 years, he knew the importance of science and advancing medicine for future generations. Friends and family members who have witnessed some of the dire medical issues Terry endured over the years have shared their admiration for his resilience. He had an unwavering positivity that inspired all who knew him.

Family will be receiving guests beginning at 9am on Friday, April 5th, with a Memorial Service at 12pm. Services will be held at Chaplestreet Church South Street Campus, 2300 South Street, Geneva, IL 60134.
